Clone Projects
Release Date: September 26th 2024
We’ve added the ability to clone a project’s settings into a new project to help speed up the creation of new projects. This is particularly useful when setting up similar crawls across different domains. To clone the project, click the three dots to the right of the project in the project list view and choose Clone project. This will then clone the project settings but not any crawl data, manually uploaded crawl source files such as URL lists, or Monitor alerts.
Crawl Rate Revision
Release Date: September 26th 2024
We previously allowed users to enter a precise crawl rate with decimal precision, but this could not be reliably supported by the platform and would be rounded to the nearest valid value. The valid available options for URLs per second crawl rates include 0.33, 0.5, and any whole number from 1 up to your account's maximum crawl rate.
Existing projects with invalid crawl rates set will shortly be automatically updated to the actual valid crawl rate that was being used, so the actual rate of crawling will not have changed. If you edit a project’s settings before the update is applied, you may have to manually choose a valid crawl rate to be able to save your project’s settings.
Hreflang Reports and Metrics Improvements
Release Date: September 24th 2024
We have made several important updates to our hreflang reporting and introduced new metrics for enhanced visibility and analysis:
1. Renamed and Enhanced Reports:
-
Links with Hreflang and Page Language Conflict (previously "Hreflang and Page Language Conflict"):
This report identifies links where the language code in the hreflang attribute does not match one of the dominant languages on the target page. The update ensures that more than one dominant language is considered when at least 10% of the page content is in a given language. -
Pages with Hreflang and Page Language Conflict (New Report):
This new report lists pages where there is at least one incoming hreflang link that conflicts with the dominant languages of the page. It helps identify cases where incoming hreflang links may lead to search engine misinterpretations or incorrect language-targeting for users.
2. New Metrics:
We have introduced the following new metrics to further enhance the accuracy and depth of these reports:
-
Languages Summary
(API code: languages_summary, datasource: crawl_urls):
Provides a summary of the languages detected on a page based on its content. -
Dominant Languages
(API code:dominant_languages, datasource: crawl_urls):
Lists all dominant languages on a page that account for at least 10% of its content. -
Identified Hreflang Language Mismatch
(API code:dominant_languages_hreflang_mismatch, datasource: crawl_links):
A boolean metric indicating whether a hreflang mismatch was identified between the dominant languages of the page and incoming hreflang links. -
URL to Dominant Languages
(API code: url_to_dominant_languages, datasource: crawl_links):
Maps URLs to their corresponding dominant languages, helping ensure hreflang tags are aligned with the content.
These updates provide enhanced visibility into language conflicts and ensure that hreflang attributes better reflect the actual content of pages, improving SEO performance and user experience.
As we've updated the way we report page language and hreflang conflicts, page with minor language variations (e.g. 60% English and 40% French) will no longer be flagged as conflicting if the hreflang links are appropriate. This change may result in improved Internationalization Health Scores as the platform is now more forgiving of multilingual content.
308 Redirects Moved to 301 Redirects Report
Release Date: September 23rd 2024
We previously included redirects with a 308 HTTP response status in the Non-301 Redirects report. In line with Google’s HTTP status classifications, 308 redirects are now shown in the 301 Redirects report instead.
Display Project Type and Viewport in Crawl Settings
Release Date: September 11th 2024
To ease the process of setting up a new project, you can now see the project type at the beginning of the breadcrumb as you move through the setup. We’ve also added the project type to the top of the crawl setup and to the breadcrumb as you move through the app, so you can clearly see which type of project you’re working in. We’ve also added the project type and user agent type to the project settings dropdown, so you can quickly remind yourself of key information.
Orphaned Log Summary Pages Filtered to Indexable Pages
Release Date: September 9th 2024
The Orphaned Log Summary Pages report included pages which were non-indexable, which was inconsistent with the other orphan page reports including the All Orphaned Pages report. This could result in a higher number of pages reported in the Orphaned Log Summary Pages report than the All Orphaned Pages report.
The Orphaned Log Summary Pages report is now filtered to indexable pages only.
