Lumar’s GEO reporting is designed to help you understand if your content is discoverable by AI systems and optimized for inclusion in AI results. It also helps you demonstrate to stakeholders that you have an AI governance plan in place.
How to Enable GEO Reporting
You can enable GEO reporting in step 1 of the crawl setup process. Simply check the box next to Enable Generative Engine Optimization Reporting, just above the SEO Settings section.
As mentioned above, to get the most out of the GEO reporting, you should also incorporate log file analysis into your crawl. Otherwise, the GEO funnel, and some of the health scores will not be available.
You can do this in the following ways:
Once you’ve added log file analysis to your project and enabled GEO reporting, run a new crawl or wait for the next scheduled crawl to run.
GEO Overview Dashboard
Once the crawl is complete, you’ll see the new GEO section in the left-hand navigation.
On the GEO Overview dashboard, you’ll see a GEO Score at the top of the page, which is a score based on the reports in the GEO section. If you hover your mouse over the trend chart, you can see the score from previous crawls.
To the right of the GEO score, you’ll then see the top errors that are related to the overall score. You can click into each of these to get directly to the relevant report if required. The health scores and top errors give you a quick way of seeing where you are, and can be used to communicate status and progress to senior stakeholders in an easy-to-understand way, as well as helping you prioritize which issues to address.
Underneath the top section, you’ll see health scores for AI Discovery, AI Understanding, and AI Inclusion categories. These scores make up the overall GEO score above. Clicking on the title of the category will take you to the relevant dashboard. Again, this helps you communicate to senior stakeholders, as well as helping you drill down to prioritize the biggest opportunities for improvement.
Underneath the category scores, you’ll see the GEO Funnel, which gives a graphical representation of pages being found by AI bots, and pages with AI referral sessions. The GEO funnel is another way to communicate with stakeholders, and you can click into the graph to get the detail from the Lumar report. As we add new reports and analysis to the GEO reporting, we’ll evolve the funnel to show more stages. In the top right corner of the GEO funnel tile, you’ll see a toggle to switch between the bar sizes being fixed, or the sizes representing the values for each step (proportional bars).
Underneath the GEO funnel, you’ll see a few charts to help you visualize the data. This includes breakdown charts (e.g. pages discovered and included, or rendering issues) and trend charts, showing the breakdowns over time.
Back at the top of the dashboard, you’ll also see tabs for all reports and errors. With these tabs, you can see a list of all the reports in the GEO reporting section, or just the error reports. You can also access the errors list by clicking on the View All Errors button in the top right of the top errors section.
Category and Subcategory Dashboards
Without the GEO reporting section, there are three categories that have their own dashboards:
- AI Discovery
- AI Understanding
- AI Inclusion
You can access these dashboards in two ways: using the left-hand navigation, or by clicking on the title of the relevant subcategory health score on the overview dashboard.
Each of the subcategory dashboards has the same structure as the overview dashboard, with a category health score and errors at the top, along with tabs for all reports in that category and errors, subcategory health scores underneath, followed by relevant breakdown and trend charts. This allows you to drill down into the data to quickly prioritize the issues you need to address.
As with the overview dashboard, you can click on the errors, subcategories, or chart data points to go to the relevant report for that data.
Each category then has a number of subcategories:
- AI Discovery:
- AI Crawlability
- AI Availability
- AI Renderability
- AI Indexability
- AI Understanding:
- AI Page Content
- AI Structured Data
- AI Understanding:
- AI Experience
- AI Authority
- AI Trustworthiness
Again, these subcategories follow the same structure, and can be accessed using the left-hand navigation, or the subcategory health scores from a category dashboard.
GEO Reports
You can view all of the reports in the GEO section using the All Reports tab on the GEO overview dashboard, or from the relevant category or subcategory. From this view, you can see the total number of URLs that appear in a report, the weighted total of the report, a trend line, the change in the number of URLs that appear in the report from the last crawl, and the number added, moved, or missing.
When you access a report, at the very top you’ll see the priority and impact of the issue. You can expand this section using the down arrow on the right-hand side to see more details on the report, what issues it may cause, how to fix, and what the positive impact will be.
In the top section of the report you’ll see a few tabs:
- Trend & Segments - this shows the trend of the issue over time, and the number of URLs in each particular segment. Note that this will only show once more than 1 crawl has completed.
- Breakdown - these charts show you patterns in the report results, so you can quickly understand them. Clicking on the chart segments or the legend gives you the opportunity to filter in or out for the report table below. This tab is only available for URL-based reports.
- Top URL Patterns - this tab shows you recurring URL patterns, giving you another way to understand themes. Again, you can click into the results to filter the table below. This tab is only available for URL-based reports.
- Related Reports - here you’ll see any related reports, and the number of URLs that appear in the reports.
Underneath the top tab, you’ll see the report table which includes each affected URL in a separate row, and various columns for the metrics that are relevant to that report. You can then customize the reports, and filter down further to create an actionable data set, as outlined in the following help articles:
- Customizing Reports: Find out how to add or move columns, filter and sort reports, and more.
- Segmentation and Exporting Data: Find out how to create segments, filter the report data by segment, and export the data in CSV format.
